My Basketball Story
How a global pandemic affected my approach to the game.
How did I land at point guard?
Having 2 older brothers who were athletes, I was learning to play basketball in the front driveway as early as I can remember.
By the time we moved to Cypress, TX in 2015, I was ready to learn to play on a team. I started at the YMCA with my dad at assistant coach & my mom as team mom.
I remember feeling like that was the most fun EVER. In 2018 I started playing with Cy Fair Sports Association (CFSA) and this is where I really began to learn and grow.
My coaches always wanted me to play point guard but I was unsure of what that truly meant or how I fit into that role. Over the next 2 years, I would definitely learn!
Similar to football, what happened next changed the game.
In 2020 a global pandemic hit and the country shut down including schools, gyms, and sports organizations. Along with my teammates and everyone else in the country, I could no longer play league sports. And since everyone was forced into remote learning, we couldn’t even play at school.
I was lucky because as soon as things began to open again, my parents were able to get me into a training facility which really started me on a major journey to learning and growing at point guard. Training at EyeCan gave me a whole different perspective and opened so many doors. It was my introduction to AAU in 2022 and my now longtime coach & mentor, Coach Aaron. And the rest is history!
My style of play
As a point guard, I am still learning to lead my team in a way that fits my personality – quiet but vocal, smart yet humble. I am always a work in progress & so happy to have great coaches and mentors who believe in me.
Because of that, I am learning to step outside my comfort zone to be the player they always tell me I am. On the court they call me Dr. Dish and a defensive specialist.
Have a look at one of my highlights below from the Phenom America Basketball Camp in Seal Beach, CA.
I was most recently nominated to play in the Texas All State game in Dallas, TX. As starting point guard, I was able to lead my team to the championship.
I was also invited to the Phenom America Basketball Camp in Seal Beach, CA where I also played at starting point guard.
These were both amazing opportunities where I was able to meet & play for college level coaches as well as top notch players from the state of Texas and across the nation.
